Prakaram
In this prakaram a small
Dakshinamoorthy Image is at the southern side. At the western end of the
prakaram is Noottretu
Lingas (108 Lingas). The shirne of Arunagirinathar, author of Tiruppugazh is situated
in this prakaram. Next to it is the flight of
steps leading to Mela Gopuram. |

Mukkuruni Vinayagar alias Mela Vasal
Vinayagar is seating opposite to these steps. This
was the Ganapathy who guarded the scaffolding during the
construction of Mela Gopuram.
In
the northern side of the prakaram the shrine for Perumal
is situated. Here Perumal is in standing posture. Next to it in the
Santhanasala rock we can worship Ranganather
in lying posture and Gajalakshmi by the side of it. Also we can see Sridevi,
Boodevi,
Neeladevi and the images of 12 Alwars.

| Copper
plated flag staff (Dwajastamba)
|
|
Copper plated flag staff is erected in the middle of
the eastern side of first prakaram. Flag
is hoisted during the Avani and Masi festivals. Opposite to this flag
staff a hole in the wall. when peeped through this hole
in the eastern direction are seen the sea waves with foam and a
calm sea behind that. If you put your
ear on it you can hear “Om”
the pranava mandra. Flag staff Vinayagar is nearby.

First
Prakaram
|
|
When we enter the first Prakaram, in the left row we can see the shrine of Kumara
Vidanga Peruman . He is
the processional festival deity of Lord Arumuga Nainar. If you
proceed further after worshipping him you can see 63 Nayanmars
and Thogai Adiyars in the left and Dakshina Moorthy on the right .
The
next 3 pillars are embellished with the figures of Kasi Swami.

|
Next
to them is the grand Valliamman shirne beautiful with marble slabs. Behind this
shirne are the shrines of Sankara Narayanar, Nagappan, Sivan, Nandi and Kasi
Viswanathar. Deivanai Sannathi
decorated with marble slabs stands
near Valliamman Shrine and in between them is the Yagasalai.

We
can worship the Chandeswarar at the Northern side of the prakaram and the shrines
of Natarajar, Saneeswarar and Biravar are at the opposite row.
|
|
You can also witness Sivagami by the side of Natarajar and Karaikal
Ammaiyar wondering at
“Ananda Thandavam” of Natarajar. You can also see
the golden flag mast encased in gold if you turn southwards. Here flag is
not hoisted.
