Queen
asking gipsy to forecast
At
the northern side of the second pillar we can see the sculpture of Queen
asking the gipsy to tell her future and she replies ”it is fate; your son
will not come back”.

The
scene of holding the legs of horse on the shoulders
In
the western side of the pillar the sculpture looks as if the king is riding
fast on a horse searching his son and an intervening soldier is crushed by
the feet of the horse; he holds his breath and resists the horse by keeping both of his hands
on the floor.

Arjun
|
|
The third statute in the Ranga mandapam is Arjun.
He performed austerities
without food and sleep for many months invoking Lord Siva to get the
Pasupatham. Though he looks like a
hermit, he is an archer. The
characteristics of a hermit such
as softness, tolerance
etc. are all
excellently engraved in this sculpture. He is seeking pasupatham only to
show his talent in archery and wrestling. He is holding pasupatham in the
right hand and bow kanteebam in the left hand.

Karnan
In
the fourth pillar, the statue of Karnan is by the side of Arjun. Karnan was
the king of Anaga Desam and a
famous philanthropist. He is holding Naga Pasam. He is also good in archery.
His face shows the valour.

The
fifth pillar contains the statute of a soldier carrying the princess. She is
having veil on her face and pulling the tuft of a soldier.
On seeing this, both the prince and Minster’s son chase
him on a horse. Prince is hitting the soldier in his hip with spear.
He is seen holding the rein of the soldier’s horse by left hand and the
spear in his right hand. On the right side, the minister’s son is
rushing towards the soldier with great anger
holding sword in his hand. We can see
the ribs of the soldier. Blood is gushing out of the wound. This statue,
having the natural colour of blood stain at the rib, is considered
a wonderful image with life.

Veerabadrar
The
Veerbadrar statue in the mandapam is very beautiful. He was on the move to
destroy both Thakkan’s yaga and Thakkan, the father-in-law of Lord Siva,
who disrespected Him. With fire in his eyes, he is the first in the
pillars of south row. He is with long mustache, side burns
upto cheek; long
hair, double chin, spear in the right hand, square shield in the left hand;
having a long garland, upto feet. This image will create fear and love
whoever sees this statue.

Manmathan
(God of Love)
Manmathan
statue is next to Veerabadran. He is holding
a sugarcane bow. There is a hole in the upper side of the bow. If you
put a needle through this, it will reach the other end. The connoisseurs are
wondering the talent of the sculptor who did this in a stone.
