History
of Krishnapuram
This
hamlet is some 8 kms away
from Tirunelveli in the east. This is called art temple of south
region. This village is named after the King Kumar Krishnappa Naicker
son of Viswanatha Kumarappa Naicker, the greatest among Naicker kings.
Earlier, this place was called Venkatapuram. Later it was named after
Krishnappa Naicker who had constructed the temple and called as
Krishnapuram. Some may say it is named after the Vijaya Nagar King
Krishna Devarayar. |

temples. They are lively. Like reading the pulse of a man, we can see life
in the sculptures here. This temple can be called as touch stone for art
critics. We can see this kind of liveliness only here and not elsewhere.

Folk
dance
A
celestial woman is holding garland in her hand; having ear leaves in her ear
and performs folk dance with beautiful hair dress. In this statue the nerves
on the legs of the woman are chiselled
neatly. This can be seen in Veerappa Naicker mandapam.

Queen
is seated in a swan
In
the second pillar a queen is seated in a swan holding play toy (kilukilupai)
to Prince and tries to attract his attention. As she failed in her effort, a gipsy girl abducts him.ª

the second pillar the prominent sculpture is gipsy. She in running away with
prince in her shoulder. The parrot in her hand is symbol of beauty; the sword in
the hands of prince is symbol of valour.
